Sponsored by Fondazione Edison in collaboration with Istituto Sviluppo Sostenibile Italia (Italian Development Institute).
Milano, 6 March 2001

The dominant presence of the made in Italy small and medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) carries a correspondent and specific environmental impact. Though, till now, attention towards technical and legal studies regarding the environmental policy of SMEs has been rather poor.

What kind of difficulties do the SMEs face at the various levels of environmental policies?

In setting right past pollution, in carrying out the adjustments to be in conformity to the regulations in force and in promoting more advanced environmental innovation on the production process and on the product.

The 2001 financial act has taken measures which permit the SMEs to deduct from the taxable income for fiscal purposes investments for environmental measures which are not already compulsory according to the law.

What intervention can be provided under this rule and what further economic, technical and normative interventions could be useful to develop environmental policy, innovation and SMEs competitiveness?

This meeting sponsored by the Foundation in collaboration with ISSI, in which environmental experts and SMEs representatives will take part, aims to an answer to these important questions.
