The first session provides the contributions of four among the most prestigious entities whose aim is to promote the construction of European research nets and which range, with their studies, over many and various fields. The need to integrate, through European partnerships, research contributions and activities made at a national level by every single subject is stressed. Scientific and technological dynamism of Europe, researchers' mobility, excellence, circulation of ideas and innovations, investment in R&D are fundamental issues for those subjects which present themselves in this section and witness the importance, for European research, of "speaking" through entities able to aggregate representatives of many countries.

The second session provides five contributions which involve either Italian and other European countries' speakers. The aim of this section is to analyse the role of foundations and associations operative, sector by sector, in the fields of scientific and technological research. This kind of commitment stresses the core mission of these subjects, that is the pursue of the development and the enhancement of innovation. Representatives of well known European and international research institutes and university foundations will attend this session. Through the presentation of their peculiar experience, they will provide a wide survey of the sector of scientific and technological advanced research in Italy as well as in Europe.

The third session provides an introductory contribution about the role in Italy of banking foundations, aimed at stressing the relation between these grant making subjects, which are able to grant considerable amount of money, and the chance of an economic development of the territory where they operate. To this purpose, we consider important to follow the first contribution with a widening on three banking foundations operative in each of the three macro Italian areas (North, Centre, South). Finally, one more contribution is added and held by a representative of a foundation involved in the study of the economic and territorial development.
